Choice

You are given choices all the time; every turn in your life. To

Ignore or Attend to - When you see a wounded stray dog on the road. I saw one the day before with his tail badly damaged while commuting by auto. The dog seemed calm; but my heart skipped a beat when I saw the raw flesh. I thought about all the dust, infection and the struggle. I wanted to stop the auto; run after him and take to a vet and at least dress his wounds. My thought stopped there; I took no action. Why? Everyday; I see at least one stray wounded, bruised and battered. I so want to take them all in. I choose to ignore.

Love or be Indifferent - You are given a choice to either love or hate? I wont call the opposite of love is hate. Hate is still fine; its the indifference that hurts more. The person whom you love, care and wish good chooses to be indifferent. What do you do? Either choose to continue to love or ignore. Continue to do what you'd do. How can you stop just because the other didn't reciprocate your feelings? Is it give or take? Its not a transaction right?

Thank or Crib - Well, to each his own. We think our struggles are the greatest and worse injustice has been done. While you are fighting to hold on to the person you love; give a moment and think about the thousands of refugees who are forced to abandon everything for no fault of theirs. Now do you thank for whatever you are provided with - meals, a decent job, clothes, shelter, a smart phone to express your criticism or crib about traffic, your job, your partner?

Be Calm or be angry - When you are being tested, being questioned, taken for granted...You can either talk rubbish and use foul language, express anger or just stay calm. Is being calm and being at receiving end a sign of weakness? No! its just that you are mature and stronger than the other person who is expressing the anger.

Let Go or Hold on to - Sometimes its better to let go than hold on to something that would not empower you and nourish you. Letting go; in other words giving up. You can only try for a while and then let go for the best of everyone.

So see, there is a choice in life all the time. Good person or bad person. No one knows what happens to us after our death. What happens to our soul? While we are alive; we have a choice all the time; until death. Its us who can take control of how we want to be. Sometimes the decision taken can be termed stupid, foolish and even hopeless. But if you feel you did the right thing and feel satisfied about it; make that choice.

  1. We being the subject of choice for many,it's somehow present there to influence our mental state. And the choice of indifference,it's the killer.

    1. Time definitely matters. In a way that how you have been in the past; now and how you want to be in the future also governs how you react.

  3. Hmm, I suppose these are ruminations ,reflections, musings from the solo journeys that you made.

If that is so, it tells the power of solitude- I mean times when you are all by yourself. Intrepid travelers get this wonderful feeling , I suppose.

But then what was it about"the soul" that you mentioned?
That perhaps gave room for the widely seen character of Man- ie yearning , longing for immortality

    1. Anil,

Yup; the luxury of being alone and left to think. But lonely thoughts are dangerous too...

Im glad you asked the question about "the soul". I am guessing we may have similar thoughts. When they say karma, soul and all that.....we not only long for immortality but also leave a hook behind for people to do the right thing...Or live in fear that one's soul might wander in neither world. But why wait? Do good now! right away! And dont expect. What happens to your soul should not drive your actions right?

  4. Yeah...the choices that we make, make all the difference. Funny thing is, we all perhaps believe we are making the right choice at that moment, given the situation, time and frame of mind. But when we ruminate at another time and temperament, it may appear not so right or even wrong!

    1. RGB,

:) Yes; that point of time; it seems we did the right thing. But thinking abut it; as you say it may not be a right or a wrong one. That moment.....drives everything eh?

  5. We are our choices. Those are what finally shape us. Like you said if we are okay to live with the consequences of our choices, it is great. There is no such thing as a right or a wrong choice.

Welcome here. Rightly said. Its not the choices but the outcome that determines if our actions are good or bad.

  6. All said and done, the injuries on an animal heal on their own in a very natural way.

    1. Haddock,

Believe it or not; I pass by every injured animal with the same thought and they do heal. Though I dont go up to them and take them to vet; I make it a point to look for them and see their progress. They do heal well.

  7. I have always believe in this. One is not a victim of fate but of the choices they make. Lots of things to ponder on ...

  8. VERY VERY TRUEEEeeeee.. choices choices and more choices ... and i am so bad at them , never have been able to make the right one :) but that is another story ...

Although I do feel that if end of the day you put your head on the pillow close your eyes and you have a sound sleep then it has bee na good day and some good choices made ..

because in my stupid mind i also think that no one knows exactly what is the right or wrong choice .. it is at that particular moment what you think.. because hindsight you may feel had you dont that the other way :)

Fate well we make our fate each day with THAT choice we make :)

    1. Bik,

Haha all of us I think feel that way at one point or the other. Wish we had made a different choice.....

Exactly! its the moment and the circumstances. It may be right to me but wrong to you...So as you said if you can sleep and rest and wake up to another bright day; its more than enough :)

  9. And one's choice should always be based on what one wants and not what others want you to do... I know quite a few people who usually go by what is expected of them rather than what they yearn for..

    1. Meety,

So agree with you. Often, we do what others want us to do to please them. But real acceptance is that you dont impose things on others
