Macro Madness - 1

I am not going to bug you folks this time with any write ups. Its some exercise to your eyes. I was bored yesterday evening, just didn't want to think or do anything, with hectic brooding and analyzing at work......Engineer's job!! Can you expect any better?

So I just ended up shooting some pics of things lying in my home. They are all simple things but beautiful, which misses our attention. All are macro shots; with low lights and no natural lighting; as it was evening. I apologize in advance if they are not pleasing or if they lacked justice. Just my best shot; it also explains my mood.

One of the few lamps lit outside my home, the only one with wax

Autumn leaves

How can nature design beautiful patterns; so symmetrical?

Fiery red

Isn't fire lovely?

God's eye

Autumn leaf again

Bangles - how they adorn a lady's hand

A Japanese Fan

A real maple leaf covered with 18K gold. I bought this as a souvenir from Muir Woods State Park, CA

And finally, a task for you all. Can you take a guess, what this could be?

There are few more shots that I captured. Will share sometime later.

  3. Excellent pictures. No special lightings are necessary. This is perfect. The last picture could be anything from spilled diamonds to spilled marshmellows. Please tell us what it is. Thanks.

  7. Bindu, I am very very impressed.
My favorite of the lot is the "diya" (lamp) looks amazing. The black background makes it stands out so well. I loved that picture.

Next, I could not decide which one I like the second best, the "Bangles" is the "God's eye". did you do any post processing for that one? I loved the colours in both the photos. The angle of the bangles photo looks very nice. Just a small arc; uninterrupted. :-)

The last photo is of sugar cubes, isn't it? With some post touch ups.

  8. Sugar cubes or just sugar maybe??

Loved the bangles. Very colourful and vibrant. Just the way I like it.

P.S. The maple leaf rocks! I had a 4 leafed clover once. Donno where it went.

  9. Hi soin,

Thank you :-) I was a bit disappointed with the lights as they induced shadow in the frame and capturing the shot got tougher

  10. Hi Rohit,

Hahahaha, I better be on guard. Thanks for the comments. Yeah, one of my favorite is the lamp picture. The flame is so clear and neat

  11. Hi SG,

Thank you. There were no lights at all!! forget special lighting. :-) Yet, the pictures have come out decent.

Spilled diamonds?? Woo how I wish!! But I am no rich lady to spill so many diamonds. Spilled marshmallows? Naaah, tough to find marshmallows here.

They are sugar, normal ones, not even crystals. Its a macro shot with no lighting at all. The camera's flash threw a slight glare and also shadows at the right corner, has given these effects; which I am not really satisfied with

  14. Hi Neha,

You are absolutely right!! Thank God, I thought the pic was really a bad one, sort of seemed morphed, but you could figure them out.

Sugar, white ones. The low light and the camera's flash gives it a reddish tinge

  15. Oh no. You just shattered my imagination. I was imagining this girl who wears a Rs.4000 jeans gets out of her Lexus SC 430 2 Door Convertible and accidentally drops her diamond stones and a paparazzi takes the shot of those diamonds. Oh no.

  16. Gautam,

You probably wouldn't realize how much your words mean to me. Are you really impressed with the pics. Then, I can pat on my shoulder and say that I have done a decent job. Was waiting for your reactions with apprehensions. :-)

    Now I am relieved.

I liked the diya one too. About the "Bangles" - I captured lot of shots with whole and part. I wanted to capture a partial angle but with maximum colors in there. This was a perfect shot. Just adjusted the mid tone. The many colors accentuated the picture.

The God's eye - the picture came out pretty well for a low light. Again, just played around with mid tone and contrast; about 2-5 points.

The last one is sugar. Not big enough, just our ordinary sugar found in the kitchen. The low light and the flash from the camera added a reddish hue to it. I just set adjusted the midtone again to get a darker background.

Thanks again Gautam. I have few more of them, will post later

  17. Hi Shaunak,

Absolutely right!! Just sugar they are.
I loved the bangles too, the colors and the angle.

Thanks pal, the maple leaf is my treasure. Its sad that you lost your 4 leaved clover. Feels very bad isn't it? Hope you get it back, maybe its hidden safe somewhere

  18. Hi SG,

Hmm, Did you get any overdose of E! on TV? :-) Paparazzi, Convertible and all :-)

"Lexus SC 430 2 Door Convertible". Oh!! Why did you remind me of the cars now. :-( boo hoo...

Hope I get to at least touch the Lexus once in my lifetime! And spilling diamonds..Errr.....I would spill sugar crystals and maybe fake crystals and imagine that I am the rich kid who is spilling diamonds all over..Straight out of a fantasy land huh!! :-)

  28. Hi Abhi,

Thank you :-) Glad you liked them all.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion Abhi. I am not sure if the pics are that very good to be uploaded among so many awesome ones found there on flickr.
I have an account on flickr, but I guess the uploads have their limit isn't it? And after a point, they charge to use their website? Anyways, let me take your suggestion and upload them on flickr. :-)

  33. [can't think of an appropriate disclaimer for this comment.]

    Nice pics, I must say!

I liked the candle pic at the top, the best.

Was that a maple lead made of gold? Or was it an insect?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi Ketan,

Hmmm...As I thought, you do see things in a different perspective

No one would have ever thought the leaf as an insect. Yes, its a maple leaf covered with 18K gold. :-)

  35. Arrey Insignia, you see, whenever someone asks pointing to something, can you 'guess' what this is?, my mind automatically assumes it must be something really unexpected!

That's why a conservative guess (made of gold), and a wild one (insect).

You might have noticed in monsoons, there is a variety of insects whose wings look exactly like green leaf. Moreover, one of the fellow bloggers had put up a picture of one such insect, and asked, can you guess what it is?!!

I was going put up some other silly disclaimer like 'personal experience/opinion ahead' in my attempt to take sweet revenge against *that* post, but refrained. My laziness gets the better off most of my sinister designs. :( Anyway, before you point out how only to make this clarification, I'd to type so much, I'd tell you, that with this admission to laziness, I won't have to put any future disclaimers, I guess! ;)

And well, I realize, I mistakenly thought the diya to be a candle! Plain bad observation, nothing different about my perspective, here. :(

Anyway, reading your responses to comments I realized, you are doubting the quality of your pics, but believe me (which you must if you read my responses to Stupidosaur, carefully ;) ), these pics are really, really good!

A lot of photographs uploaded on those websites are re-touched, hence making look better than the original captures!

No apologies for long comment. Am shameless!

    TC.

All your explanations and justifications accepted without further doubt or question or concern :-)

Thank you very much for appreciating these pictures. This is my other hobby apart from ranting and reading.

And my saying that you looked things in a different perspective was a compliment :-) I humbly request you to accept it.:-)

    Take care
