Those 3 magical words

Her thoughts just brought him that unexplainable ecstasy. He would just wait to catch a glimpse of her. He could not explain how he felt when he thought about her, when he saw her.

He had heard about numerous love stories; discussed about love and its magic, how intoxicating it was. But he did not really understand how euphoric the feeling would be; until now. He had had heard about love, heard his friends discussing about love; only to understand its magnitude now.

He would not forget the day he first saw her. He was loitering in the park; when she walked with an acquaintance. The first thing he noticed about her was her hair; long and silky. At that moment; he just wanted to feel her long tresses. She was the first lady who evoked a strange blissful feeling in him; the most amazing feeling.

He had heard about infatuation; puppy love and all that; but was very sure his was true love. He had been her secret admirer for quite some time; he decided to confess his feelings for her. He wanted to express how much he loved her; he wanted to share with her the future he has dreamt for them; all the wonderful things they would do together.

As these thoughts poured over; he forgot that he was sitting in the same place in the park where he first saw her. He knew she would pass by and he had decided to steal some time from her and confess; proclaim his true feelings for her.

Awww, he forgot to carry with him some present; a bunch of flowers would have been so appropriate. So nervous he was that he didn't have a thought about it; but that was alright. All that was running on his mind was how he would approach her. He was fighting with all these overwhelming thoughts and his nervousness; when he saw her approaching from distance. He had this exhilarating joy the moment he saw her. He waited for her; and as she came by; she gave such a charming smile that he could faint right there.

She walked close to him; and took a seat beside him. He knew this was the moment; it was now or never. He mustered all his courage; drew a deep breathe and was about to propose; when she just saw one of her acquaintances; her friend, he always hated him for being so close with her. That guy was the villain for him. As she was about to get up and go to meet her friend; he decided to just tell it out. He struggled as she smiled and was walking away; when he wanted to say. All he could manage was a feeble

"Bow Wow Wow...." as she elegantly walked away wagging her tail.

  3. Hi! I couldn't understand! Was the protagonist a dog? If so, why would he think of 'her' long tresses of silky hair or flowers as gift?

Anyway, I'd done nonviolent 55er too with a twist ;) Here:

  6. Yes Ketan, it was a dog. Her long tresses - It means the female dog here has long coat of hairs - the pelage that covers its body.

I thought you would understand the analogy; being a smart man :-D

Flowers as gift - I just took the liberty to personify the dog here. I am sure its not a crime!!!

  7. (one sided)Love story between a dog and a bitch! lol... :D
Nicely written! The words 'tresses' and 'flowers' didn't give away the twist. Otherwise I'd have kind of guessed. :-) You tricked meeeeeeeeeee.... :-(
Enjoyed reading. Very well narrated. :-)

  8. Though not a female, I too can be selectively unsmart! :P

And why do you speak of 'crime'? Is something making you feel guilty here? ;)

Well on a more serious note, in my opinion, if you would want to take the reader on an unrelated tangent, it should be ideally done with 'data' that could be logically connected with the anticlimax, when later revealed.

Otherwise, it would be too easy to create twists in the plot as and when the writer would want, with nothing challenging remaining in developing a plot. :) Also, the sincere reader would not try to predict the ultimate outcome, since he/she would know that no conclusion could be reached using the 'data' provided in the piece. And this could result in reading with lesser interest/attention. :(

Of course, all this would count only if you wish to write more logically consistent fiction. If it is only the 'TTUM' that counts, then my opinion doesn't count! ;)

    TC.

PS: I hope my honesty wouldn't generate 'widespread' protests and sloganeering to the effect of "Insignia aage badho; hum tumhare saath hai"! ;) LOL, *all that* was truly funny!

  12. OK Here it is Ketanji...

Females can sometimes be selectively unsmart; unlike men who are always dumb; so much so that they fail to understand their inborn stupidity.

When I said 'crime' it was a sarcastic comment.

Thanks for your honest comment and your suggestion. From your points, I see that you feel 'tresses' and 'flowers' are not appropriate data that could be logically connected. Well, here it is - tresses are used in place of coat or fur; slang way.

Flower as I said, just used it to personify the dog. It may literally not be flowers here. Or yeah maybe to deviate the reader.

Anyways thank you for your suggestion; this is my third post and the beginning; I will definitely improve.

And thanks for the links; shall read them.

PS : You were the epicenter; its left to people. You see, my comments are not moderated so everything is here. :-D

  14. Hi Insignia!

My reservation was only with 'flowers', not at all with 'tresses'. In fact, I found 'tresses' to be a good distraction ploy.

And to repeat, to discourage you would never be my motive. But also, you'll never find me come up with a standard 'I agree with everything' or 'Insignia, this is great'. I have praised/agree with your work/ideas in the past, but only with utmost sincerity. And even with this post, I was only pointing out a minor flaw. Maybe, it assumed this shape only because I (we) discussed it too much. ;) And I forgot to point out, your narration was good. :)

And be careful before you generalize with something like 'all men'. Personally, to be connected with even half-name of Stupidosaur is a huge honor! Not sure, how other men take it, though ;)

    TC.

PS: My prior postscript was not at all directed at you. It was only for the champions of 'representative democracy'. But thanks for clarifying anyway. And when I said "funny", I truly meant it. In fact, I now know who Rajan TheGreat was. ;)

  15. I still maintain "Insignia aage badho; hum tumhare saath hai"

Standing by a friend when she is facing a disaster is funny, then I am the biggest clown on this planet earth.

wish people start minding their own business and post a comment that is related to the current blog post. If one does not understand a post, then please do not comment. At least that way Insignia will not have to blame our whole breed.

    Regards and sympathy,
    Your Well Wisher

PS: Insignia aage badho; hum tumhare saath hai.

  16. Alright Ketanji.

Clear now, your concerns are with my usage of flowers. Maybe that was unwanted. But I wanted to deviate a bit. I'll take care.

And I really appreciate your honest comments. I dont really expect praises for whatsoever-heck I write here; as I am very well aware of my writing skills and standards.

I personally feel the usage of 'flowers' was really needed. I could have stopped at the 'present'. Not needed of mentioning what 'present'

And I really appreciate on your keen observation and pointing out. No offences meant; I tend to throw sarcasms in my responses too :-)

Hmm, I had to quote about men because you said "though not a female and blah blah blah...." I am not a chauvinist and my posts are enough proof of that. Anyways, irrespective of genders, I have deep respect for human beings and much more respect for all living creatures. :-) Free that.

PS : I understood your PS. I only wanted to say my comment box are indeed FREE and is not moderated

Anyway, thanks much. I honestly appreciate your frank views. Very much needed.

  20. Dear Well wisher aka ** aka "yes"-ji,

I'm truly glad and relieved that despite so much *affirmative* 'support' for your 'friend in need' there was (hopefully) no misunderstanding between Insignia and me.

Though, you've personally never addressed me, it was funny (but worrisome) for me only because I was amused by simple disagreements expressed in very much civil manner (and may I add, with attempts at providing due reasons) being construed as 'disasters'. I do not think Insignia is so delicate.

Disagreements are sometimes the only indicators that an attempt to understand the conveyed thought was made.

Also, in Insignia's post on political parties' divisive policies, I did not disagree with her at all! I was merely adding my perspective to what I consider a serious problem. Again, adding more points to someone else's, if taken as 'disaster', to me, comes as really sensationalist and shortsighted.

Also, your commenting on my blog calling me "boring" did not seem to me as an attempt to 'protect' your friend.

In fact when I felt your friend had done something which could potentially bring her some real-world harm (as against virtual world's virtual 'disasters'), I had tried to protect her in my small way by again, somewhat disagreeing with her, but not without citing a real world-example.

Hope, this assures you that I harbor no mala fide intentions towards your friend. :)

    Take care.

PS: Actually, even having to clarify thus itself is funny, but then I don't mind being funny. ;)

  21. Insignia,

I read the story again, I liked it. :) Especially, now 'puppy love' seemed really well thought and induced a smile.

I was thinking about how best to fit 'flowers' in the scheme. With a few modifications in some of the earlier lines:

"she gave such a charming smile that his jaw dropped and the flowers he had brought fell to the ground. He felt so lightheaded, he was afraid he would faint!"

Okay, I know this sounds too technical, and somewhat breaks the flow, but as I said, it's my only best attempt. :) But there would be an additional hint of flowers dropping because of dropping of jaw, which I hope the reader would miss and kick himself for. ;) But of course, am only trying from my side, and not at all suggesting that you make such modifications.

When I said, "though not a female", that was in continuation with one of your comments to the effect, "I'm selectively smart", if you remember. :) Maybe, I should've said, "Though not Insignia, I too can be..." to avoid confusion.

In fact, you'll hardly find me making wide sweeping generalizations about any large group (including gender, country of birth, mother tongue, religion, caste, profession, etc.) because that according to me is just a form of communalism. Though I might not respect all human beings, I do recognize them as separate individuals, and do not thrust upon them generalized attributes. If you find me making sweeping generalizations, usually I would only be joking, or making a typo! Sorry for digressing, but hope this disclaimer helps avoid any future misunderstandings. :)

Also, I really support the idea of not moderating comments because they actually speak more about the author of the comment, rather than author of the blog post. :)

Thanks for the acknowledgement of my honest, and assurance of lack of misunderstanding between us (this time it was unfortunately somewhat required).

    TC.

  22. Oh Boy Ketan..Relax dude! I guess we all write for fun..Don't we? I read blogs just to sneak peek in to someone else's thought. With so much of observation, I might die...Relax, reading is supposed to be stress reliever, not the other way round, right?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hello Vishal!

Yes, you're right about relaxing. But very truly, I'm most relaxed when I make such observations. In fact, I would find my life worthless of living, if not for these small-small observations.

But I understand, exchanges between Insignia and me got too long drawn owing to a few misunderstandings. :) And maybe, because of my trying to dissect the readers' psychology too carefully.

So anyway, I'm trying to overcome this problem of thinking (and commenting) too much by commenting on very few, selected blogs that have truly impressed me. :)

    Take care.

Please enable comment moderation immediately and stop publishing Ketan's comments. If you do not do that, you will lose all your readers. Then your only reader will be Ketan. You both can then have long correspondence between yourselves. This is not a request Insignia. Consider this as you are forewarned.

  42. Hello Insignia!

Well truly, I never anticipated things could turn so embarrassing for your blog. I apologize for that, though as far as I see, my contribution in this mess is very little. :)

I would really appreciate if you drop me an email at panchalkc@yahoo.co.in

There are a few things I would like to tell, which concern me, and a few clarifications I would like from you, which would help you as well as me mutually decide whether I should continue commenting here on your blog or not.

And if I'm requesting you to email me, rest assured, it is after due consideration of many factors, and it is not something I could discuss on a public forum.

I'm not threatening to leave your blog or something, as I consider such histrionics very childish, indeed. But henceforth, I want to proceed with caution, for your (more so) as well as my benefit.

And as you might understand, commenting or not commenting on someone else's blog is a small decision for me to make. And likewise it would be a minor issue for you to not get comments from one of your readers (me). Again, this is not emotional blackmail, but simple facts that I'm stating. So, I would not like something as minor as my choosing to keeping on commenting on your blog to result in 'consequences' for you. :)

Thanks for your clarification in the previous comment. :)

But you cant decide whom I should respond to or whom I should ignore. It is my blog and I get to decide what to do. Maybe you could only suggest me; and that also only if I ask you.

And please sir/ma'am, you cant ask any of my reader to leave my blog. You are just a reader as any other.

Enough of it all. Now I am going to delete all your spams and moderating my commentsl just because I want to avoid more spams from you.

    I dont want any policing done for my blog by any one;

Stop dominating and ordering me in my space; it is my space and I decide what to do and what not; what to keep and what not.

    Thanks much

  55. Hi Ketan,

As most say, maybe our conservation turn long and irritate other readers; yet I dont think that should bother any of them.

Whatever; I apologize for all the mess. No one can say you to stay or get out. Its your decision; you can choose to continue reading my posts; comment or stop visiting.

If you read this comment; I want to say thanks for your thoughts and views.

  58. I just add one thing to this pointless 'hysteria'. Since it's your blog, you decide whose comments to keep, whose comments to reply to and so on. So if someone doesn't like reading big ass comments, it's left to their discretion not too:P
There's no point shoo-ing Mr ketan away. I think only you have that right.
Continue writing. Maybe moderation isn't such a bad idea after all.
