Its a MAN MAN world?

Guys.....Gentlemen.......Rough men.....Boys............This ain't a chauvinistic post. So chill and don't come to a conclusion.

I read a disturbing news recently about a 39 year old woman constable with the Punjab Intelligence Wing being assaulted by one of her senior male colleagues. This heinous act was committed in full public view and the poor lady was spared only after a colleague intervened.

My only thought was - If a women with the police department doesn't have protection, what would be the plight of a common woman. No wonder people are wary of police in India. Those who should pledge security and maintain law and order indulge in these insensitive activities.

Police service is a highly male dominated profession. Few women who are bold enough to handle the demanding job and are enthusiastic to make an impact join the police forces. For a common man, these are the folks who could protect them, preserve law and order for peace. These women not only do hold the responsibility of protecting the state, but have to empower themselves to counteract the discrimination, oppression and prejudice from their fellow colleagues, institutions and others.

Few narrow minded men who cannot accept the fact that women are coming out of their kitchen and equally participating in areas where only males dominated until now are to blame. Women try hard to shake away the stigma attached that they are only fit to care and tend; they tend to struggle to show that they cannot be underestimated.

Pathetic state of affairs for most women yet. Not everything is thorny. We have come a far way and the role of a woman as a tenderly caretaker at home and an aggressive no-nonsense lady at work has been appreciated. Yet, incidents like these do happen. Sad.

  5. It's not about ...protection it's not about india ..It's all about women being soft targets.

Happens everywhere. It's a universally not acceptable act.

  6. What happened to that woman constable is deplorable. But attaching any bad thing done to a female by a man to male dominated society, and narrow minded men, and men who cannot accept women coming out of the kitchen, has become very fashionable. This type of stereotyping is not healthy.

Does any one know (other than the police and these two people) why he assaulted her? They may have a dispute over money or some other thing and this guy got angry. Assaulting any one and that too a female is unforgivable.

If a man beats a woman, we immediately conclude even before we know the reason, that he is a narrow minded male chauvinistic pig and should be hanged.

If a woman beats a man, we immediately conclude even before we know the reason, that he must have done something wrong and so he deserves it.

Sorry Insignia. Usually I like to read and enjoy your postings. But once in a while I have to disagree. This time, no dice.

  8. Hi Peter,

I agree it happens everywhere. But definitely not to the extent it happens here. Well, maybe not because men in other places are angelic, but the law, order and others and of course the way this situation would have been handled.

A woman being paraded naked, a woman being assaulted...the public just witnesses it as a mute spectator!!

  9. Hi Vivek,

We can agree to disagree :-)
    Will respond to you later.

  10. Hi Vivek,

I said I would respond to you later; that was because I wanted to read what I have written; to check if anything was wrong at all.

First and foremost, I would like to revisit few of your accusations :-) if I may call that so.
I have never ever mentioned that a society was/is male dominated. I was only referring to the male dominated police department which we all know is true. I have always tried to be politically correct and I am certainly not in favor of generalizing. There are incidents of women being assaulted day in and day out - domestic violence, oppression at work place - you cant disagree on that.

Take any day's newspaper, and I bet you can find at least one case; woman paraded naked, woman gang raped.
And I did not even touch any of these topics. Whatever happened between the lady and the boss, no one knew. Yet, that's not an excuse to assault a lady when they were at work!!.

Well, when a man beats a woman, most people do come to a conclusion. That's true and wrong. I am not the one who would call any guy as a 'chauvinistic pig'....err...poor pig, why drag the pig!! :-)

On a serious note, 'if a woman beats a man, we conclude even before we know the reason, that he must have done something wrong' --- I guess this blame would be reversed if we start reading headlines each day like "Man gang raped by 5 women" or "A man was assaulted by a woman for rejecting her proposal".

I don't find any statement that is stereotypical in my post.

"Few narrow minded men who cannot accept the fact that women are coming out of their kitchen and equally participating in areas where only males dominated until now are to blame. Women try hard to shake away the stigma attached that they are only fit to care and tend; they tend to struggle to show that they cannot be underestimated."

I have only mentioned "few narrow minded men" and not "Narrow minded men". Dont you think there are still few men who are narrow minded and cant accept women getting out of kitchen? I have witnessed it. Sophisticated and educated men throw their viewpoints that women must not get out to work!!! And you know what? They talk these nonsense at workplace having their women colleagues around.

And it is true that women do struggle than usual to prove themselves at home and at work.

To add, my near and dear ones who have encouraged me through out and been with me through rough times are all good men.

Not every is chauvinistic, not everyone is narrow-minded - be it a man or a woman

  12. Hi Vivek,

Thanks much. There's nothing wrong in having different viewpoints. We cant think alike all the time, aint it? No offense.

You are always welcome and I look forward to your comments in future too.

  13. Vivek,

Adding to what I said, no one is right or wrong. Relative thoughts.

You are one person whose thoughts I look forward to and I hope you continue reading my posts and sharing your views.

  16. Hi Who Posted This?

The title ends with a question mark....

And most times, my title doesn't go with what I write. My titles are sometimes sarcastic, funny and irrelevant to what I write about :-)
