Me

Ego clashes
Pride beckons
Anger seers
Humiliated! one says

Don't assume
Ask why
You never know what might come up
Comforts the other.

Who'll get away?
Ego? Has good chance!
I'm the best of all!
I am always right!
Now fuel me more!

Who is in me?
Go away you ego! go away you pride!
You are all broken!,  you are all fake!
Who is in me?
Lift the veil of self
Stripped of ego
Is me...

Naked
Unabashed
Of me...

A recent conversation spurned these thoughts.

  1. Nice one Insi. Why I don't know, how to deal with the 'hurt ego' and humiliations and perspectives there of seem a big deal.If one is solved with this one,I guess one is truly balanced and serene. The ways may be different, but the attempt to keep the track and 'reach there' is with me as well. That's all I can say here Insi..You have the 'verses' inside you Insi writer..Keep jotting.

    1. Thank you Melange. Its not easy Melange. We wish we could; but it binds and manipulates us. I think when we can control it; thats when we attain the nirvana.

Thanks for your kind and encouraging words

  2. Nice to see your verses, B. One has to be really driven to a corner for verses to burst forth...

    1. Balan,

Thank you. I had a conversation with a friend on these verses. He asked me if it was just a poem or my feelings. I said I was not a poet to imagine to such great lengths and write.

    1. Sir, true. Sometimes there are 2 faces of our own ego within and they are demons

  4. Nice one. However, if someone is snubbed, the natural anger in response cannot be called ego. What do you think?

    1. SG,

Hmm anger can't be held on to forever. Its natural to be angry and mad at the person; but then after that? Continuing to be cross in response to your ego ..hmm not good

  5. Sounds like you had an interesting conversation!!!!!! YES, our pride and our egos do get in the way sometime... When I get in that kind of conversation, it's best to walk away and cool off for a few minutes!!!!

    Great poem..

    1. Hi Betsy,

Welcome to B Log :-) Oh! you bet! Its surprising how much our ego can control us. I like what you do; its best to walk away. Which is too tough :-)

  6. I have been thinking this, ego is within us or it depends on the persons we are with? what is the actual philosophy behind the word 'ego'?

    1. Alice,

Thats such a thought provoking question. Ego is within us definitely; how it manifests depends on you when you are with others or in a situation - these being the catalyst. At the end of the day; we are human beings and we ought to be in control of ourselves. No use blaming others

  8. What could be the catalyst that brought forth these lines?
Someone stated that self respect is ego. Since he was a bottle egoist I chose not to to debate the matter that self respect must not be rubbished like that.

    1. Anil,

A conversation. More often than not; people forget to ask WHY. They assume. There are so many things the mind says but they don't want to express it for the fear of being immature. Immaturity is not about not expressing what you feel but its about how you express it.

Self esteem and self respect is not ego. I don't think so. Whoever said that might have been confused

  9. Such a small word. Ego. But how heavy and difficult to let go!

    Nicely penned, Insignia. :)

  10. wonder what made you ponder so much about ego. was it the ego you saw within you or the ego you saw within some one else?
the philosophical depth of this word is just too straining to grasp. damn.

    1. Gautam, both. When you see how ego makes a person behave; you realize you have the same stuff within you which more often tries to influence you. And it's scares
