Some of my Posts

Saw this tag at Neha's and decided to do it. Been ages since I took up a tag. But this one gave a chance to revisit some of my best posts. It feels a sense of nostalgia to remember those good days when the writer and the reader were so passionate. Here are few of my posts which were famous for the right and the wrong reasons.

Your most beautiful post

Definitely have to be one of the numerous posts with travel posts. The new place, experience, culture and the nature energizes me so much and I feel alive and beautiful each time I see a new place. I would choose the set on Costa Rica.

Your most popular post

Hmm that would be Chaos Theory and Fractals. I got people following me after this post; and had many asking me with curiosity about how I got to know about this. Even to this day I get mails/comments from people who want to use the software programs I created for fractals and if they can refer to this link for their research paper :)

Your most controversial post

Haan bit difficult since I have got into bit of controversies. Let me see....There were quite a handful of posts where it got murkier on the comment page and there were brickbats and clubs virtually thrown at each other. There were few which had an email thread set off and virtual do-gooders bitching about me without even knowing me! I have so many such posts in my kitty that I don't recall them. I have lost readers, I was told I am jealous, I was told to be biased, I was contacted by heads of institutions... :P Some of them are 'A' Thoughts, Its a MAN MAN World, India - Just a Notion?, Insignia at IIT

Thanks Neha for helping me with identifying my controversial posts :P

Your most helpful post

That would be Chaos Theory and Fractals. I get people requesting to refer my post for their research theories and projects and it really feels good. Another post is Naming Cyclones. Helpful is not really like saving from a life threatening stuff but in gaining knowledge :)

A post whose success surprised you

The post I love your comments. It was a sticky topic to write on; but packaged with sarcasm and humor; it worked its charm. Surprised that people really enjoyed it and came clean on doing it themselves :)

A post you feel didn't get the attention it deserved

Umm there are few of them. Posts which have a blend of sarcasm never deserve the attention because I think sarcasm is hard to understand. I don't remember any; it does not matter :)

The post you're most proud of

Have to be Kaapi Time and Taking the Lift. I really like it when I can write about simple everyday things in life. I have written on many such topics; these two are my favorite.

Thanks Neha, it was nice to go down the memory lane and revisit some of my favorites and controversial.

Saving Insignia from Blue and Pink

On popular demand, I am taking up this tag. This tag is being devoured like yummy cakes all around my blog network. I did not want to take up tags for some time, but its contagious you see!!

Neha, Nu and lostworld have tagged me. Pardon me if I have missed anyone else who has tagged me on the same. I am losing my memory, see, signs of growing old :-|

This tag is about listing at least 10 things you have done that your gender is not supposed to do or generally does not do. Hmm, being me, I do have few interesting things and few things that I want to do that my gender is not supposed to do. Now who set these rules!! I do not know. Anyway, its fun tag, let me not get into probing further.

I have gone against the principles of 'Girls do not do these things' and a 'Girl has to do do all these things' all the time. Been a rebel, continue to be a rebel and I am smirked upon. Well, nothing has changed me!!

So, apart from listing those things I have done that my gender is not supposed to do, I would also list about the things that I have not done which a girl is supposed to do.

1. Never been able to get myself to adorn my house's courtyard with a Rangoli or the Kolam. My mom always made it a point to have an elaborate Kolam before the sun came out. She had a magic in her fingers which I could never ever get. It was a girl thing but I could never learn the art!! I remember an incident. One day she was having a bad headache(when was headache ever good!! :-S) and she was coaxing me to draw a Kolam before the sun came out. I was sleepy, yet I grudgingly went out not able to withstand her nag anymore, swept the area and drew a Kolam, came back and slept. When she saw what I had done, she was shocked! She mentions it even to this day to anyone and everyone she meets. Well, what I did was draw something of this sort, in the name of Kolam.
She would never forgive me for this. I was such a tomboy that I could never get this girlie habit.

2. At work, more than writing lines of code, what i love is climbing ladders and pulling optical fibers and cables to connect my servers and switches. The servers, switches and cables are my babies! I love to plug in modules and assemble servers and chassis. This is only a guy thing which a support engineer(mostly a guy) does. But I like to get my hands bleeding. Yeah you folks read it right. One such day, I noticed blood flowing on the edge of the rack in my data center when trying to connect some cables and wires to my server. It was spooky, like a scene from a horror movie. I did not know where it was from. I just wiped it off and came back to my desk. It was then I noticed a cut on my wrist. Talk about working hard by giving off your blood and sweat!!

3. I can talk about lengths regarding the technical details, performance, price and value of cars and bikes. Now this is often considered a male domain. But these things have always fascinated me. My friends check with me if they want any information on latest models of car/bikes and their specifications. It so happened that in my 11th grade, I was discussing about the newly introduced bike Pulsar with a friend. This lady happened to share the same with her dad. Her dad had warned her not to continue her friendship with me, as he thought I had a boy friend; because it was not possible for a girl to know all the technical details of a bike!! And hence I would have a wrong influence on her :-S

4. I am a beauty illiterate. You may already know about that. I have a post dedicated on the same - Beauty Illiterate.
I do not know what an eye liner is, what a mascara is. I do not know what is the difference between a foundation or a concealer! Never tried them, never been to a salon except to trim my hair. I like it this way!!

5. I do not have girls as my friends. I can hardly count on my fingers the number of girl friends I have. I am very comfortable with guys and I get along with them very well. Can talk anything under the sun with ease with them, but not with girls! I do not like gossips, the mushy-mushy cho-chweet candy talks of girls, that's the reason.

6. I do not like dressing up. It takes me less than 2 minutes to dress. A pair of jeans or capris and a casual shirt or a Tee is all I need. No make-up, no jewelry. Actually these things irritate me. But as a typical women, I am very particular about my foot wear. :-P

7. I am constatnly told to slow-down at home and at work. I come across as an aggressive, dominant, no-nonsense person who speaks my mind out. Are these traits of men?? I do not know.

8. I love riding motor cycles. Used to regularly ride my husband's Yamaha RX135 before marriage. 2 stroke bikes are always thrilling. Now that I am married to him and stuck up for the rest of my life, he does not give his bike anymore :-P

9. I have had short layered bob cut until recently and I found it very very comfortable. Others around me thought I was too boyish and on an outcry, I had to let my hair grow :-(

10. I do not like laces, satin ribbons, braids and bows. I cannot flutter my eye lashes, neither can I be elegant, even when I am draped in a Saree.. Sorry!!

11. I am very adventurous. I like traveling to the places not explored, and end up venturing to areas that are closed or which are not open for visiting. Guys!! I tell you are not that bold at all. I have tough time coaxing them to join.

12. I was about to forget this one. I do not get scared of roaches, worms, lizards....

Phew!! Its really tough you see! I am done!! Yaaeyyy!

Almost everyone around have been tagged, so now to make it interesting, I am going to tag guys!! :-P wicked me

I tag Bikram, Nipun, et. What are the girlie things you have done or want to do guys? I wanna know!!

Guilty and Innocent Again and also Nameless :-)

As promised, I am here taking up 2 more tags today. One by Nipun and the other by Gayathri.

Let me take up Gayathri's first. Its sort of  confusing as this is an award which has no fancy picture or a Name. Its called NAMELESS Award. What I have to do is this

1. List 7 things about myself that nobody knows.
2. Pass this award on to 7 other people.
3. Comment on their blog and notify them that they have been tagged.

So here I go

1. I am a systems software engineer toying with advanced technologies of virtualization and enterprise storage.

2. I am very very very lazy. I have to literally push myself to do anything at all!!

3. I am a music maniac. Need music all the time except while sleeping. Languages no bar. In fact, I need music to work productively and if there is a situation where I cant have music like meetings, trainings, then I sing or hum, there is always a rhythm within :-) Preparing for exams as well required music on full volume. And yes, I sing pretty well, that's what I have been told and suggested to start getting trained formally.

4. I am upfront, bold, no nonsense, straight forward and frank person who cant fake or sweet talk. Tough to get promotions eh? What to do, cant help.

5. I seem to have an excellent photographic memory. I can remember anything seen or read just a couple of times instantly. My friends used to surrender their credit card numbers and other important dates and facts to me. I tend to remember everything and anything, however irrelevant that be. Its more of a disadvantage as I also tend to remember things that I very badly want to forget!!!

6. I am a shoe freak. I cant stop myself from buying at least 1 pair of footwear if I ever cross a shoe store. Now a days, I close my eyes literally whenever I pass a shoe store as I already have 40+ pairs of footwear in all shapes and designs and have no more closet space at home!! Oh yeah!! by the way, got 2 pairs yesterday too :-P

7.  I like to learn new things and update myself. Want to learn painting and hone my photographic skills. I know 6 languages, learning Punjabi and Gujrati but my teachers are not regular and dedicated as their student is. Listening to me Punjabi and Gujrati teachers??? After this, few more languages :-D

Wow!! that was super seven. I tag

Now the next tag :-)

**********************************************************************************************
Nipun tagged me again for the 'Guilty or Innocent'. I had already done it last August and it was incidentally my first tag.

Here it is - Guilty or Innocent

But answering is fun, so thought let me answer again. You may find discrepancy in few answers. But that could be either because few things have changed since August or that I forgot the respective incidents and thus answered otherwise....Anyways its fun!!

The rules are thus…
RULE 1: You can only say Guilty or Innocent
RULE 2: You are not allowed to explain anything unless someone messages you and asks!
RULE 3: Copy and paste this into your notes , delete my answers, type in your answers and tag 20 of your friends to answer this.

A Tag and 3 Cakes

I have 3 tags pending for quite some time. Thought let me take a break from my sarcasms and observations and take these tags now. So here is the first one. A tag by Nipun, and voila!! a bonus too. An award - Cherry on Top. Thank you very much Nuts for this wonderful gesture. :-)

Hmmmm yummy eh? I can have the cakes and eat it too...not just 1 but 3...3....3 :-D

It been sometime since the tag bug and award bug caught me. They have caught me again. Few months ago, we bloggers did only tags and passed on awards :-D Initially it seemed weird to me, then I started enjoying it.

Now what this tag is all about? I have to write 3 GOOD THINGS about me. Just 3???? Oh dear!! Miserly...I have so many good things in me...just 3? :-| Makes sense as there are only 3 cakes. Hmm....

For the first cake....

I am very very kind. Stupidly kind I would say. Kind to anyone and everyone. Phew!! it has its disadvantages.

First cake was heavenly, now the second one.

I am extremes. How can that be good. Well, I can do an extreme thing or take drastic decisions in a split second. Helps me and others involved as well.

Now the third. By the way, the cherry was sweet :-P

I am a very simple person. My needs are minimal, well; except for the BMW :-P

Done :-)

Now I am going to tag few folks who are too good that only 3 good points would not be justified :-P
Presenting the Cherry on Top award as well :-)

Here they are. Please accept the award and take up the tag guys.

Tag-o-Three

I was tagged by Neha( I did request her to tag me sometime back when things were too nerdy at work and I wanted to chill). Since then, she has tagged me thrice. I thought I would just take that up; no sleep on a Sunday night :-|

She also awarded me with "Kreative Blogger Award", "Awesome Blogger Award" and "Honest Scrap award"
Thanks much Neha for finding me deserving. I now need to take up these :-)

Honest Scrap award

The rules are:
“When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to the said person so everyone knows she/he is real. Choose a minimum of seven (7) blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have seven friends. Show the seven random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with Honest Weblog. Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon. List at least ten (10) honest things about yourself. Then pass it on!”

Ladies and Gentlemen, HONEST SCRAP award; hmmm...why is it a SCRAP; I fail to understand. But HONEST....hmm....HONEST!!!! what honest?? Me?

But this award is a bit hatke than others; for it seems to challenge the receiver to be nakedly honest; yeah people!!, butt nakedly honest :-P So I am glad that my blog posts have given an impression that I could be honest. Well, tell me try....whats not possible, ain't it?

10 honest things about me....Oh god!!! Isn't this the ultimate test at the pearly gates of heaven :-S. I could see Angel Gabriel in milky white and those fluffy feathers; waiting for my 10 points.

1. I am a person of extremes. Now detailing about it might end up as a post!!

2. I honestly feel people are more poisonous than animals, birds, insects, reptiles......So I am scared of people than anything or any other being.
No offense folks!!!

3. I am a maniac in reading. Give me a book or a bit of paper with some words on them; and you can make sure you could loot my house while I remain oblivious.

4. I am a sucker for knowledge and information. That's one reason why books are my best friends. Thanks to the Internet and the Wiki.

5. I am dead honest when I say my husband is a much better cook than me.

6. I am bluntly open and talk my mind out; be it at work or anywhere. Hence I have more people who hate me than those who like me.

7. I have a photographic memory; I could remember most things just observed once. I feel its a big disadvantage!! How much ever I try; cant forget things I want to forget. :-(

8. I am very restless; cant keep my mind to rest for a second.

9. I feel stupid most times; not because I am stupid; but when most times, people don't understand my sarcasm; I feel stupidly stupid.

10. I have a fetish for footwear. I don't seem to be satisfied with the 40+ pairs of footwear I have and "I want more!!" in this case. So nowadays I literally close my eyes and walk away when passing by a footwear store.

The I tag :-)

You know how trainings can be boring!! And if its a core technical training; with some theory and lab exercises where you go dig and mutilate the servers, products; its still boring. Especially when you are interested from an engineering point of view, but the scope of the training is only administrative.

OK, what I want to say is. I am in this boring training for 4 full days. I cant sit; I cant laugh; I cant make fun of my colleague cant laugh; cant comment. I am fed up; waiting for the last day; that's tomorrow. You might ask me why am I putting up with it? That's because its a Certification course and my organization has paid 40K for me to get trained; so don't want to waste the org's money!! I am a goody goody girl..:-D

At the end of it all, I would have learnt something new!! Yeah, so to beat the boredom, I shamelessly asked Neha to tag me. That she would a bit later; but asked me to take up a tag for now; but I was told to take up the tag with the letter "I"; instead of the starting letter of my name.

Hmmm...so what? I shall. So here it is.

1. What is your name: I :-P
2. A four Letter Word: init - (Its the first process in a UNIX system which spawns all other processes). I told ya that I was in a training!!! Can't help!!
3. A boy's Name: Ishant
4. A girl's Name: Ina
5. An occupation: Ichthyology...hmm Investment Banking is lucrative, or is it anymore?
6. A color: Indigo
7. Something you wear: ID badge
8. A food: Ice cream!!!
9. Something found in the bathroom: Instant Facial Masque
10. A place: Iceland
11. A reason for being late: I missed the bus!!
12. Something you shout: Idiot!!!
13. A movie title: Inglorious Bastards
14. Something you drink: Iced Tea
15. A musical group: Iron Maiden
16. An animal: Impala
17. A street name: Infantry Road in Bangalore
18. A type of car: Infiniti
19. Something scary: Ice caps melting in the polar region due to global warming :-(
20. Ice cream flavor: Icing on the Cake by Baskin Robbins...Yummyyy..

PS : A couple of stuffs beginning with 'I' was tough. But I made it!!!...yeeeeaaayyy!!!

Thank you post and A Tag

I forgot to mention two things.

1. My post on Kaapi - http://spice-n-ice.blogspot.com/2009/09/kaapi-time.html gave me immense satisfaction that I have done justice to Coffee after reading all your comments. Most of the readers felt the aroma of the coffee or lingered to have coffee after reading the post. A writer cannot get any better award than these. Thank you all for those wonderful comments and reminiscing with me.

2. My previous post on my kitten, evoked some emotions among the readers. I generally write sarcastic humor, but that post was heavy. I hope none of you were affected too very deeply by it.

Previous 2 weeks were adventurous and fun and awards galore. I started blogging beginning March 2008. For more than a year, my blog was read by just a couple of folks. I wrote it for myself, to unwind; these people were interested to read whatever I wrote. I am very bad at networking, so I didn't advertise my blog or even never asked any of my friends to read it; even though I silently blog hopped and lapped up all what others wrote.

But of late, I have been followed, people read what I write, it feels nice. But I also feel sad, because my best posts have all been lying underneath. I wrote them when not many read me; they are really really good ones. So folks, if you are bored and don't have anything to do, I would suggest you to dig my archives and read older posts. Trust me, you will enjoy to the core and you wont belt me!! SATISFACTION GUARANTEED.

Errr...I am not bragging but genuinely want wonderful readers like you not to miss few of the beautiful stuffs that I wrote.

Yeah, why did I say this? Because, I got few awards from folks who think my posts are entertaining and they like it. Here are those

The Circle of Friends Award - by SG. Thanks a ton SG for considering me a true blog friend. It means a lot to me.
Beautiful Blogger Award- By SG again. This was what he said and I quote ""She has no idea that I consider her as my blog guru. I got my inspiration to write my own blog only after reading her posts. To this Ekalavya, she is like Dronacharya. I hope this Insigniacharya does not ask my typing fingers to be cut and given to her as guru dakshina"

Well, SG's explanation really astounded me, I had not even a faintest idea that he considers me as his blog guru. And well, yes I just loved the new name -
Insigniacharya. Thanks a lot SG.

I Love Your Blog Award and One Lovely Blog Award - by Rammy. Thank you Rammy for liking my posts, its really encouraging.

A Fabulous Blog Award by Neha. Thanks a ton Neha, this was so very unexpected. I read your post, commented on it. After sometime, I saw your comment on my blog that I have an award to collect from your blog. I was surprised because when I read your post, I was sure I didn't miss anything.

Tag-o-mania

I thought my next post would be 'Insignia goes to America'. But I got tagged again by Gayathriji. This one seems to be quite light. So here I am

1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn on page 18 and find line 4 - "Optimize your virtual machine I/O with adjustable volume, disk, file and block sizes" (A technical guide on server virtualization and enterprise storage) :-S
I am at work now and these are the materials I have around me!!

2.
Stretch your left arm out as far as you can & catch air? – Shucks!!! I hit my hand against the left wall of my cube!!

3.
What is the last thing you watched on TV? – Today morning, after getting my overdose of YSR, I tuned on to a music channel and I watched the song "Vizhi moodi yosithal" from Tamil movie Ayan. I like Surya and I love to hear to Karthik :-D

4. Without looking, guess what time it is? – 1:55 PM

5.
Now look at the clock, what is the actual time? – 1:54 PM.....Wow!! I am so close!!

6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?- I am on my headphone right now hearing to a Telugu melody(one of cute song by Karthik again). But I can also hear some key tabs, and my colleague kicking his feet against my cube. I feel tremor...
I have to ask him to stop, he does this most times, maybe I need to tie his legs together!!.

7. When did you last step outside? What were you doing? – AT 9 AM, today morning, left for work.

8. Before you started this Q&As, what did you look at?- A couple of other blogs. And latest was Gayathri's, as I had to copy this tag.

9.
What are you wearing?- Grrrrrr, dress of course! OK, enough of the PJ. My favorite pair of Jeans - stone cold wash, skinny and low hip, a maroon pull over with a beautiful bull dog on the front, pair of tiny ear studs, a ballerina white pumps...Phew!!! Enough is enough!!!, wont go into more detail.....Oh yeah, I forgot my watch today.

10. When did you last laugh? – 5 minutes back when my colleague came around and shared his training experience!

11. What is on the walls of the room you are in? – I am far away from the walls. The nearest one and probably the only one is painted red with a fire extinguisher attached at one end. Its all glass facade otherwise

12. Seen anything weird lately? – Yups!! An indifferent looking teeny-weeny pizza the size of an infant's palm offered at our office cafe.

13.
What do you think of this quiz? I thought this was light, but its making me think!! which I find it tough with this time of the day after a heavy lunch and music playing on in parallel.

14. What is the last film you saw? - Kaminaey!!...I faw it twife!! Hahahaha Yeah in the movie hall.
Aife aife,....kaife kaife......I really loved the "Fpiderman.......Fpiderman............." act

15. If you became a multimillionaire overnight, what would you buy?- A BMW 3 series coupe - Sporty. This is the first thing that always comes on my mind!! Don't know why :-| Remaining money, there will be loads right? BMW 3 series can be acquired for about 30-40 lakhs, yeah remaining money, I don't know what I'll do. I'll hire one money manager as I am very poor in managing it.

16.
Tell me something about you that I dunno!- Horror movies make me laugh!! They seem funny to me. I am not scared of reptiles and I am the official 'banish-executive' of lizards, cockroaches at my home.

17.
If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?- Want to eliminate illiteracy, this would get into the crux of all the issues.

18.
Do you like to Dance?- Yeah, I do dance most times, while walking, while at home. There's always some music playing in my mind all the time.....I guess whatever limb shaking and hip shaking I do is well enough to be called a dance!!

19. Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?- Hehehehe :-P I always liked the name "Ahalya'. So that's what it would be. But hope the kid likes it.

20. Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?- Oh never thought about this yet!! Hmm, it will be 'Abhi'+something I think

21. Would you ever consider living abroad? – Naeyyyyyyyy! Each time I have lived outside Bangalore; even for a couple of months, it was somewhat empty-empty, sad-sad. So no living outside Bangalore, forget about living outside India!!
